The Cycle4Uganda route is over 300km long, and we will be completing it in 5 days of cycling (plus a rest day). We will be cycling between 40km and 95km each day, on roads and dirt tracks. Uganda is a mountainous country - each day involves between 400m and 1000m of ascent. The route starts and finishes in the capital city, Kampala, on the shores of Lake Victoria. It takes in some popular sights such as the Sipi falls, the volcano Mount Elgon, the source of River Nile at Jinja, and the Mabira rainforest. We will also be cycling through some of the less-visited villages and communities of rural Uganda.
Straddling the equator, Uganda enjoys twelve hours of daylight all year round. The temperature in December/January will be around 25C, as it is the whole year, day and night. There is also a good chance of rain – Uganda is a tropical country, as testified by its green and fertile landscape.
Uganda is a safe and peaceful country with some of the world's warmest and most welcoming people. There is a diverse range of cultural traditions across the country and we will experience some of these during evening cultural performances. We will also enjoy two celebration events: firstly to see in the New Year, and again at the end of the challenge.
