Cost
Cycle4Uganda is a fundraiser, which means that as well as covering the costs of the event itself, we intend to raise as much money as possible for our cause. The good news is that several Ugandan businesses are kindly sponsoring the event, which means the cost to participants is still relatively low.
The costs covered include your 7 nights’ accommodation, bike, transport within Uganda and food and drink en route. Participants will have to pay for four things:
- Registration fee
This is a non-refundable deposit of GBP250 equivalent, to be paid at the time of registration.
We hope to be welcoming participants from all over the world. Our organizing partners, JCT and Action Challenge, are UK-based, so you will have to pay your registration fee to us in British Pounds (GBP). This can be done by credit / debit card on Virgin Money Giving, by cheque in the UK, or by international wire transfer. After that, you can raise your sponsorship in any currency of your choice.
- Sponsorship
The amount of money you will need to raise depends on your currency, and how old you will be at the time of the event. The following are the categories:

(Please note: these are rounded figures that represent exchange rates as of August 2010 and are fixed for each currency from that time. Exchange rates fluctuate and the parity of the totals stated may change over time.)
We are also pleased to offer a discount for families. The first family member will pay the full sponsorship amount, the second family member will receive a 10% discount, the third family member will receive a 25% discount, and the fourth family member will receive a 40% discount (immediate relatives only - see terms and conditions for full details).
Note that the amounts stated are minimum targets - remember, the more money you raise, the bigger the impact of our education projects!
The easiest way to collect and pay your sponsorship is by using Virgin Money Giving, where you and your sponsors can use any major credit or debit card. However, you may also pay in two lump sum cheques in the UK, or by one lump sum international wire transfer. There are more details in the fundraising pack, which we will send you after you register.
You must have collected and paid to us 80% of your sponsorship before 6th October 2010, and the remainder before 1st December 2010.
- Flights
You must pay for your own flights to and from Uganda.
Participants travelling from the UK may book flights through us at GBP585 return (London to Entebbe), but availability is limited so you should book early to take advantage of this preferential group rate. To take up this option, please enclose a separate cheque for GBP585 when you send us your registration fee. If you book your flights through us, but wish to extend your stay, you may alter the date of your return flight by completing this flight extension form.
Participants from outside the UK, and UK participants making their own arrangements, should book a flight to Entebbe, Uganda, arriving no later than 4pm on Thursday 30th December 2010. The event will be over by the morning of Thursday 6th January 2011 and we will arrange an airport shuttle that afternoon.
- Other essentials
Finally, you must also pay for your travel insurance, your visa, and any optional excursions and leisure activities you wish to participate in.
As a Ugandan registered-NGO, Mara Foundation is unable to collect funds directly in the UK. We have therefore partnered up with JCT, a UK-registered charity, who will receive all funds raised in the UK on our behalf. |
