The funds raised from Cycle4Uganda will be used to help secondary schools in Uganda overcome some of their challenges and provide the best possible education to the students there.
This will be done through Mara Foundation’s innovative ‘Next Generation’ programme of school management. Rather than just spending money on a school and then going away, the ‘Next Generation’ programme partners with schools long-term to help them come up with new solutions for providing better education. Having adequate facilities is important – which is why we make a capital investment in every school – but it isn’t the whole story – which is why we keep working with our partner schools on an ongoing basis.
In 2010, the foundation is working with two secondary schools with a third to be added by the end of the year. Mara Foundation's target is to partner with ten more schools over the course of 2011, and we hope that the funds raised from Cycle4Uganda will take us some of the way to achieving this goal.
